What a smart tourism information network actually involves

When destinations talk about smart tourism, the conversation often starts with hardware: kiosks, totems, video walls. Hardware matters, but it is rarely what determines whether a network succeeds.

A useful network starts with visitor journeys. Where do visitors arrive, where do they hesitate, and what do they need to know at each point? Those answers decide which devices go where.

The second layer is content: accurate, current, multilingual and designed for each screen format. The third is management, meaning one platform to schedule content and monitor devices so that nothing goes stale. The fourth is measurement, so that the organization can see which content and locations are used and plan accordingly.

Planned together, these layers turn a collection of screens into a visitor information service.
